Big Ten Academic Alliance (Formerly CIC) Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP)
Description: SROP helps prepare undergraduates for graduate study through intensive research experiences with faculty mentors and enrichment activities. The program seeks to increase graduate school access for students from groups underrepresented in graduate education.

Kansas State University Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (SUROP)
Description: SUROP gives undergraduates from under-represented groups a first-hand experience with the research process. Students work closely with faculty members as part of their research teams and attend weekly seminars to learn more about the graduate school experience.

The Leadership Alliance
Description: The Leadership Alliance Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) prepares undergraduates for research careers by providing students with hands-on research experiences.

Description: MSRUP students conduct research under the guidance of experienced scientists and engineers who are MIT faculty members, postdoctoral fellows, and advanced graduate students. Princeton Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (PSURE)
Description: The goal of PSURE is to motivate and prepare students to make competitive applications to research doctoral programs, with a view toward completing the Ph.D. and going on to teach and conduct original research. Each student accepted for PSURE will work with a Princeton faculty member, either as a research assistant in a laboratory project (sciences and engineering) or as an advisee in editing and writing research papers appropriate to the field (humanities and social sciences).

Description: UCLA SPUR offers upper division undergraduate students with outstanding academic potential the opportunity to work closely with faculty mentors on research projects. The programs are designed for students who wish to learn more about the graduate school experience and possibly pursue an academic career in teaching and research.

University of Missouri Summer Undergraduate Research Programs
Coordinated by the MU Office of Undergraduate Research, the Summer Undergraduate Research Program hosts 50+ students from institutions across the nation. Interns in the program participate in educational and social activities and numerous outings planned by the interns themselves creating a vibrant, inclusive, and welcoming summer community. Under the guidance of an MU faculty mentor, students work on their own projects in collaboration with graduate students, lab technicians, and post-doctoral researchers and will showcase their results at a poster Forum on July 27th.

Students live in on-campus air-conditioned housing (double rooms), and receive a meal plan paid by the program. Many programs provide one credit hour of research, travel to and from Columbia, and stipends range from $3,400 – $5,400.

American Bar Association Montgomery Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program

Description: This fellowship introduces undergraduate students to the rewards and demands of a research-oriented career in law and/or social science, as well as to provide guidance about the many career options under the umbrella of the legal profession.. Each student is assigned to an American Bar Foundation Research Professor who will involve the student in his/her research project and mentor the student. Preference will be given to candidates from underrepresented backgrounds in the legal field or social sciences, including but not limited to first-generation and low-income students and students of color.

The American Political Science Association Ralph Bunche Summer Institute
Description: The Institute gives students a look at the world of graduate study with a program of two transferable credit courses, one in quantitative analysis and one in race and American politics, to introduce the intellectual demands of graduate school and political science research methods. For a final project for both courses, students prepare original, empirical research papers, and top students are given the opportunity to present their research at APSA's Annual Meeting.

Description: Anthropology interns work on projects relating to the collections or to the ongoing research interests of the curatorial staff in the museum or in the field. Curry School of Education Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP), University of Virginia
Description: This internship program is designed to encourage students from groups traditionally underrepresented in the field of education research to pursue graduate study and consider careers in academic, policy, or research organizations. Interns will work on research focusing on schools, classrooms, and other youth settings as contexts critical to child and adolescent development. They will also participate in developmental workshops and meetings, and present at a research conference.

Ellings Korduba Research Fellowship

Description: The Ellings-Korduba Research Fellowship Program offers intensive, three-month fellowships during the summer to current graduate and advanced undergraduate students whose degrees focus on issues of strategic importance to the United States in Asia. The National Bureau of Asian Research will award fellowships, plus a stipend, to a small class of fellows each year from universities across the United States. Fellows will spend the summer conducting independent research under the guidance of experts and NBR editors, as well as developing a policy memo they will present to NBR staff and select guests from the policy, academic, and business communities. Fellows spend a summer as junior fellows in residence at NBR's Seattle office and participate in a summer seminar series featuring high-level speakers from NBR's network of experts, mentor interactions, and regional site visits to relevant military bases, organizations, and consulates.

Biology/BCS/CBMM Summer Research Internship, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Description: This summer program provides a unique opportunity for students who do not have access to top-notch research facilities at their own institution to conduct supervised research in a fast-paced environment with state-of-the-art research facilities, and to experience first hand the academic social and cultural environment at MIT. Johns Hopkins Center for Computational Biology
Description: The internship program provides hands-on research experience as part of ongoing research projects with bioinformatics and genomics faculty at Johns Hopkins' Center for Computational Biology at the McKusick-Nathans Institute of Genetic Medicine. Current areas of research include analysis of high-throughput DNA sequence data to characterize genes and their variations, studies of the microbiome, assembly of whole-genome shotgun data from various species, and the development of new computational and statistical methods for other genome analysis problems.

Description: The NIBIB-sponsored Biomedical Engineering Summer Internship Program (BESIP) allows students to participate in cutting edge biomedical research projects under the mentorship of world-class scientists in NIH laboratories.
