National Bureau of Asian Research's Chinese Language Fellowship Program
The NBR Chinese Language Fellowship Program (CLFP), funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York, awards two types of fellowships to American graduate students for one academic year of full-time intensive Chinese language training, generally in Taiwan or China. Eligibility: Currently enrolled in masters degree program or recently graduated, or currently enrolled in PhD program; demonstrate intermediate Chinese skills; able to devote full-time to language study; desire to advance U.S. public policy to China; U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Funding: Program specific (up to $40,000 on prospective PhD track, up to $50,000 on PhD Track)

EuroScholars
EuroScholars is a unique research abroad programme designed for advanced and talented undergraduate students from US and Canadian institutions looking for an international research experience. The EuroScholars Program offers these students to conduct research at one of the 9 internationally renowned European Research Universities. In this program, students have the opportunity to undertake one or two courses in the classroom and then work under the direct supervision of professors and other academic staff on a specific academic research project chosen by both the student and the faculty. There are an abundance of academic research projects in a variety of fields to choose from within the participating universities.

Funding: Students pay tuition and lodging to be a part of the program. Some scholarships are available.
Deadlines: early April for fall semester; early October for spring semester.
Canada
Undergraduate Research with the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics
Description: Perimeter Institute invites exceptional undergraduate students to join its research community for short-term summer research projects, running from May to mid-August. Undergraduate students will work on pre-established projects alongside Postdoctoral Fellows on-location at Perimeter Institute. Students have the rare opportunity to develop their research skills and absorb the rich variety of talks, conferences, and happenings at Perimeter.

Funding: In addition to conducting research at one of the world’s pre-eminent centres for theoretical physics, Perimeter Institute may also provide desk space, IT support, living allowances, travel costs, and accommodation to selected students, if applicable.

NanoJapan International Research Experience for Undergraduates Program (IREU), Rice University
Description: NanoJapan International Research Experience for Undergraduates Program (IREU) is a twelve-week summer program that selects sixteen freshman and sophomore science and engineering students to complete a research internship in nanotechnology in Japan.

Eligibility: To be eligible to apply for the NanoJapan International Research Experience for Undergraduates (IREU) program you must be currently enrolled as a degree-seeking undergraduate student at a U.S. institution of higher education; a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; currently in the spring semester of your first (freshman) or second (sophomore) year of study; in good academic standing and not currently under any academic suspension or other disciplinary action at your home university; able to express a demonstrated interest in the field of nanotechnology as it relates to THz dynamics of nano structures.
Funding: Program pays for pre-departure orientation at Rice University (Houston); international airfare to/from Japan from Houston, TX; Orientation Program in Tokyo; Mid-Program Meeting in Okinawa; and Re-Entry Program & RQI Colloquium in Houston. In addition to the costs that are paid for directly by the program each NanoJapan participant will received an NSF Stipend of up to $4,000 to be used towards living costs while abroad. In particular, these funds should be used during the Research Internship period to pay all housing and daily living costs and for in-country transportation in Japan to/from the research host lab. Participants will be charged $1,000, which can be paid via check or money order in three installments or in full via credit or debit card using an online payment portal. More details will be sent to selected participants. Estimated personal costs to each student not covered by funding range from $1,430 to $4,250. Consider applying for study abroad scholarships or international research funding that may be available through your home university.

Pasteur Foundation Undergraduate Internships
Description: The Pasteur Foundation Summer Internship Program provides U.S. undergraduates, entering their Junior year, with the rare opportunity to work on supervised research projects at the Institut Pasteur. The Foundation’s goal is to encourage and inspire students in the pursuit of a scientific career and to expose them to an international laboratory experience. Each year, selected laboratories at the Institut Pasteur host U.S. undergraduate students. See the application site for participating labs.

Eligibility: Applicants MUST 1) be US citizens (not permanent residents), 2) be currently enrolled undergraduates with a demonstrated interest in biosciences and biomedical research (prior lab experience is highly recommended) with excellent academic records; 3) have completed three full years (i.e. six semesters) of college course work by the time the internship commences (i.e. be a rising senior); and 4) will not have received an undergraduate degree by the time of the internship. While not required, knowledge of French or desire to learn French will enhance the experience.
Funding: Interns will receive the equivalent of a living allowance of $6,500. Travel, requisite insurance, and associated costs are the sole responsibility of the intern. Pasteur-sponsored housing may be available but is not guaranteed.

Germany
Description: RISE - Research Internships in Science and Engineering - gives students in the fields of biology, chemistry, earth sciences, engineering and physics the chance to spend a summer working with doctoral students at German universities and research institutions on serious research projects. The doctoral students help integrate the undergraduate directly into the lab work and serve as personal and professional mentors.
Locations: Multiple universities throughout Germany. 3-day initial orientation in Heidelberg, Germany.

Eligibility: Applicants are required to have completed at least two years of an undergraduate degree program by the time of the internship. No freshmen or recent graduates. You must study at a United States, Canadian or British university/college in order to apply (U.S. citizenship not required). German language ability is not required unless otherwise noted in the individual project descriptions.
Funding: The monthly DAAD scholarship rate amounts to 650 € per month. The scholarship is meant to cover living expenses such as housing and food. The award also includes health insurance as well as accident and personal liability insurance, issued directly through the DAAD insurance office. In addition, all scholarship holders are invited to a paid-for three-day meeting in Heidelberg in July and will receive an allowance to travel to the meeting. Note that airfare to Germany and back is not covered.

UROP International Summer Program, Aachen University
Description: UROP is the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program of RWTH Aachen University. UROP International is designed for students from North American Universities who wish to gain research experience by conducting research projects at RWTH Aachen University. It takes place during the summer months each year, between May and the end of July.
UROP International at RWTH Aachen Aachen consists of three elements: the program’s core, a research internship carried out in a research facility or lab at RWTH Aachen University, supervised by excellent academic staff, research-related field trips, an intensive German language course, an intercultural training and leisure time activities to introduce students to German science, history and culture and get them in contact with German and international students.

Eligibility: Students from North American universities with US or Canadian citizenship in their sophomore or junior year who have a GPA of 3.2 or higher are welcome to apply to UROP International. No tuition fees will be charged and German language skills are not required. Due to the competitive nature of the program, not all applicants can be offered a project placement.
Funding: 30 scholarships will be available, which will be awarded to students with an outstanding academic record (based on a minimum GPA of 3.2 and a letter of recommendation). The scholarships cover the living expenses during your stay in Aachen. We will notify you whether you have been considered for a scholarship by the end of February. If you have not been considered for a scholarship, you should put aside around 2,000 € for your stay in Aachen. During their stay, elected students are offered to stay in one of RWTH Aachen’s student accommodation facilities if they do not whish to arrange for accommodation for themselves. The rent may be paid through the scholarship and ranges between 160 and 200 € per month plus a two months’ rent deposit which will be reimbursed after the stay.

Vatican Observatory Summer School
Description: Annual summer school in astronomy and astrophysics held at the Vatican Observatory (Specola Vaticana) in Italy for undergraduates and beginning graduate students. Each summer there is a different theme (in 2016 it will be "Water in the Solar System and Beyond").

Eligibility: Students in upper level university classes or in their beginning years of graduate studies who have mastered the fundamentals of astrophysics and are considering the possibility of future careers in astronomy or astrophysics are invited to apply. Students must have a working knowledge of English, which will be the official language of the school.
Funding: Scholarships covering 75% or 50% of all costs, including insurance, travel and lodging expenses are offered.

The Netherlands
The Netherlands Foundation for Research in Astronomy (ASTRON) and the Joint Institute for VLBI in Europe (JIVE) Summer Research Program
Description: The Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy (ASTRON) and the Joint Institute for VLBI in Europe (JIVE) announce the availability of a limited number of grants for their Summer Research Program. The Program enables astronomy students (graduate or advanced under-graduate) to spend the summer (10-12 weeks) at the Dwingeloo Observatory, conducting astronomical research under the supervision of ASTRON and JIVE staff members. Possible topics of study include radio galaxies and quasars, aspects of observational cosmology, continuum and line emission/absorption from normal and starburst galaxies, faint radio sources, pulsars, molecular clouds, cosmic magnetism, as well as working with LOFAR data. The actual project the successful candidate will work on will be defined after arrangement with the local supervisor. The program is not aimed at engineering or electronics students.
